For the pizza base:

  • 1 ready-made pizza base or flatbread or pita bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the pizza sauce:

  • 3 to 4 tablespoons pizza sauce or tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or mixed Italian herbs
  • Salt to taste

For the toppings:

  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small tomato, thinly sliced and deseeded
  • 1 small capsicum or bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • Mushrooms, olives, sweet corn, or jalapenos as needed
  • Cooked chicken, sausage, or pepperoni (optional)
  • Black pepper or chili flakes to taste

2. Preparing the Pizza Sauce

  • Take a small bowl and add the pizza sauce or tomato sauce.
  • Add minced garlic, dried oregano, and a pinch of salt.
  • Mix well and keep aside.
  • This step enhances the flavor of store-bought sauce.

3. Preparing the Pizza Base

  • Choose a pizza base that fits comfortably inside your air fryer basket.
  • Lightly brush olive oil on one side of the pizza base.
  • Place the base in the air fryer and air fry at 180 degrees Celsius for 2 minutes.
  • This pre-cooking step prevents the base from becoming soggy.

4. Assembling the Pizza

  • Remove the pre-cooked base from the air fryer.
  • Spread an even layer of prepared pizza sauce over the base.
  • Sprinkle half of the grated mozzarella cheese evenly.
  • Add the sliced vegetables and optional meat toppings.
  • Top with the remaining cheese.
  • Sprinkle black pepper or chili flakes according to taste.

5. Cooking the Pizza in the Air Fryer

  • Carefully place the assembled pizza back into the air fryer basket.
  • Air fry at 180 degrees Celsius for 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Check after 5 minutes to avoid overcooking.
  • The pizza is ready when the cheese is fully melted and bubbly, and the edges are lightly golden.

6. Resting and Finishing Touches

  • Remove the pizza carefully from the air fryer.
  • Let it rest for 1 to 2 minutes before slicing.
  • Sprinkle additional dried herbs if desired.

7. Serving Suggestions

  • Slice the pizza using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  • Serve hot as a quick meal or snack.
  • Pair with garlic bread, salad, or a dipping sauce.

8. Storage and Reheating

  • Leftover pizza can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in the air fryer at 160 degrees Celsius for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Avoid microwaving to keep the crust crisp.

9. Helpful Tips and Variations

  • Use thin crust bases for best results in an air fryer.
  • Do not overload the pizza with toppings, as it may cook unevenly.
  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat or multigrain base.
  • For a cheese-loaded pizza, add a mix of mozzarella and cheddar.
  • For a vegetarian pizza, load with colorful vegetables.
  • For a spicy version, add extra chili flakes or hot sauce.
